Keren Hayesod Women’s Division Brunch

Marlene’s life-long commitment to human rights activism and her Jewish heritage has informed and shaped her dedication to education. An anti-apartheid activist, Marlene studied at UCT; served on SRC; and was Head Woman Student of the University and Women’s Res. She taught at Herzlia High for 20 years, also performing the role of Deputy Principal. She was the Founding Education Director of The Cape Town Holocaust Centre and has developed education programmes for The SA Jewish Museum.

Marlene is a member or the International Committee of Ethics on ‘Ethics in Education’. She has published many articles in a number of journals. She has authored the following manuals and workbooks for teachers: “The Holocaust: Lessons for humanity” and the “Education Manual for the S.A. Jewish Museum”.

As a member of the Cape Town Interfaith Initiative, she serves as Director of the Interfaith Intercultural Youth Programme. Through her compassion and great professionalism Marlene has impacted thousands of high school pupils, university students, and members of both the civil service and broader civil society.
Join us for a captivating morning where Marlene will be speaking to us on how her Jewish values have influenced her activism, her work and her life.
All contributions towards our Keren Hayesod Women’s Division events go towards Youth Futures in Israel, which is a community-based programme that mentors at-risk pre-teens & adolescents in Lod. It is the project that we in Cape Town have chosen to support.
